Education

Jay Brown for Congress: On the Education

Our political system doesn’t let 2 year olds vote. I’m ok with that, but these unrepresented fat headed toddlers are arguably our most important, if not least influential, citizens. Understanding how impactful the way we nurture these youngsters is on our future wellbeing is key to good policy making. Check out this study where added attention to youngsters echoed through generations, improving the lives, not only of the children given extra attention, but also their children.

When people do better educationally, they do better economically, and that translates into a better tax base for all of us. I think the GI Bill made this country the economic powerhouse it has been. If there is an apex priority for me, it is education. And educating people that the world is 6000 years old, and that people used to ride dinosaurs doesn’t count.

Also, educating kids at public universities with four year degrees that cost kids and families  more than $100,000 adds to the widening wealth gap. Making both colleges and universities more affordable is huge. We need more public support for our educational systems, and we need those systems to be efficient. And those universities should be the epicenter of our “market place of ideas.” Our universities have become so “politically correct” that comedians don’t dare perform there any longer. That sucks.   We need to be more tolerant of those with whom we disagree, and we all need to be able to take a joke.
